Death toll in Zombo road crash rises to two

Another person who sustained serious injuries in yesterday’s evening road crash involving two Motorcycle riders at Corner Alengu in Oyeyu Parish   Nyapea Sub _County Zombo District has died in the Hospital bed.

The crash happened after two Motorcycle riders collided at a sharp Corner.

The deceased who was riding a Bajaj Motorcycle towards Zombo Town Council has been only identified as Alex, a resident of Gira Cell Oturgang ward Paidha Town Council. He died on the spot whilst one of the two passengers he was carrying was only identified as Fortunate, A resident of Onjuku Agyermach in Warr died today.

The Tricycle rider escaped unhurt.

Joe Obedgiu, The Area Councillor of Oyeyu Parish confirmed the passing on of another person who was undergoing treatment at Nyapea Hospital. He attributed the accident to the reckless riding of the tricycle rider.

“As I talk now, one of the passengers who sustained serious injuries has also lost her life and this was as a result of reckless riding,” Obedgiu told the Whisper Eye news.

“An emergency meeting will be convened with owners of tricycles about their rampant recklessness on the roads”. The Zombo District Boda Boda association chairperson Fred onenarach has revealed.

The bodies are conveyed for autopsy at Nyapea Hospital whilst one person who was critically admitted is fighting for his life.

The owner of the Tricycle is said to have fled the scene towards Paidha Town Council.

A sizable number of eyewitnesses have blamed the accident on the reckless riding of the Tricycle rider.

Saviour Onegiu a concerned citizen said “There is a need for the relevant authority to do something about it. I would suggest some reflectors or indicators to show that it’s not a motorcycle coming “

This comes just a week after a serious road crash left over 50 people hospitalized in Jangokoro Sub County Zombo District.

From the beginning of this year alone, the West Nile subregion has recorded more than 50 fatalities on roads.

Last week, two people died in Adjumani district following a nasty collision in Adjumani Town Council.

A recent Uganda Police report indicates that a total of 12 people die of road crashes daily in Uganda
