Greater  Nebbi  Activists use social media to mobilize tuition fees for impoverished students

Wasup messaging app has turned out to be a Strong Funds mobilization tool for some activists who have prioritized their intention to pay tuition fees for the less privileged students in greater Nebbi. #WhisperEyeNews

The WhatsApp platform named “Zombo mwa forum” and Forum for the Development of Greater Nebbi was launched by some activists and some concerned citizens in Alur land to champion life-changing debates and development.

From political activism to a more social aspect of life, the activists are using the platform to help the needy in many ways that amongst others, including paying schools for impoverished learners through online fundraising and mobilizing for funds by organizing charity football matches.

The international football match between The Zombo based Paidha black angels fc from Uganda and  Mahagi Territory-based Bisengo fc from Eastern DRC was the first charity football match organized by the activists, to raise funds for many Students at higher institutions of learning in the greater Nebbi district most of whom can’t afford tuition fees.

The encounter that mustered hundreds of spectators and politicians from all walks of life saw Bar Okoro stadium in Paidha town council filled to the brim.

The mobilization for the Charity match merely started with a social media campaign on a WhatsApp group called “Zombo mwa forum” and Forum for the development of greater Nebbi by the activists garnered momentum thus the extensive selling of the event.

The Wasup platform ” Zombo mwa forum ” forum for the development of greater Nebbi has lately become a strong advocating tool to reckon with because it’s members are engaged in at times fierce debates on more especially developments.

Of late, the WhatsApp platform has grown,  with thousands of Alur community from greater Nebbi and in diaspora, all collectively getting involved in social, political, and economic unfoldings that see politicians answering questions from the electorates through the messaging app.

According to the Zombo Mwa forum was up admin Sam Rwothomio, many students perform well but are cut short of studies since their families are financially incapacitated.

He added that their focus is to expand the initiative to accommodate a battery of impoverished Students.

“Concerned members of Zombo Mwa Forum realized the great need to help students who perform very well at school but in the end, they don’t continue with their studies because of so many factors namely lack of school fees, etc. We would like to grow this into a bigger project that can benefit the very needy children who are bright in the community. 
To raise these funds, we have organized a charity match which will take place in Bar Okoro stadium Paidha”, Rwothomio said.

The target of these WhatsApp platforms is to start helping hundreds of learners through their various advocacy.

Recently through “Zombo mwa forum” initiative and the community of greater Nebbi from Kampala city,    hundreds of girls from the Paidha town council benefited from sanitary pads donation to improve on their hygiene.

By press time, it was not clear how much the Wasup platforms collected as gate fees.

Jennifer Jansy, one of the activists championing the initiative commends the administration of Bisengo fc from DRC and Paidha black angels fc for supporting the initiative.

She said the two forums spearheaded by five members are paying three students who are all pursuing medical courses in higher institutions of learning.

The LC 3 chairperson of Paidha town council Innocent Godfrey Onega commends the activists for the great stride before appealing for more people to stand in the gap.

The prime minister of Alur Kingdom Opar Lawrence Angala has expressed happiness about the activist’s great support towards the less privileged.

He also called for peace and coexistence between both the Alur community in Uganda and D.R.C.

There is also an ongoing fundraising Campaign for a  cancer-stricken 15 years old Alizabeta Gloria, Of Thatha division Nebbi Municipality
