More than three hundred girls in Zombo district have benefited from over 1000 sanitary pads from the MK Women League army. #WhisperEyeNews
The schools are from Zeu, Alangi, and some parts of Warr town council.
Many girls in Zombo drop out of school because their parents can’t manage to afford sanitary pads.
Others fall prey to men who capitalize on poverty to marry off young girls.
Hon Joan Komugisha, the National Women League Mk Army the initiative is to extend more knowledge and support about menstrual hygiene Amongst the youth.
” We have donated over 1000 sanitary pads to the young girl. These are girls of the age bracket of 16 -18 years and above. Our intention is to ensure that they get more knowledge and support because menstrual hygiene is very important”. Komugisha said.
Many girls who have benefited have hailed the initiative.
The coordinator for all the schools where learners benefited from the initiative Gloria Anican said they have managed to reach many places as well. She said as part of their support, they have visited some health facilities as well to do cleanness.
” We manage to reach different places. we visited schools and we reached out to some health facilities to carry out cleanness. It will not stop here. We intend to get down to every part of the District”, Anican said.
The women league Mk Army who have visited Zombo plans to formulate their grass root structure for the first son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, that is said to be eyeing the top seat in the country.
The national vice chairperson MK Women League Eastern Uganda Amal Maureen said they are targeting the young girls because they are the future generations.
“We target the young girls because they are the future mothers. When you have a woman, you have a nation. We are the ones who are responsible for these girls” Amal said.
Other activities they plan to conduct in Zombo amongst others include organizing sports, and cleaning health facilities amongst others.
