Zombo RDC warns URA against operations without district knowledge

The RDC of Zombo district Retired Lt Col Pius Alitema, has called for better coordination between The district Leadership and URA officers to avoid any possible violence. #WhisperEyeNews

This comes weeks after two URA officers attempted to reportedly grab an unregistered motorcycle from one of the boda riders in Zombo town council which attracted by a rowdy mob.

The two who sustained serious head injuries were rushed to Rhema medical clinic Paidha and later discharged.

The RDC of Zombo Pius Alitema whilst speaking during the council meeting last week at Zombo district headquarters, warned of action against URA officers, who will not coordinate with the District leadership whilst executing their duties in the district.

” Any operation within the district, The RDC and the District security committee must be informed, So next time we shall take action against URA officials who come to carry out work without informing us”, Alitema stated.

Last year, URA officers attached to Padea border customs in Padea town council clashed with boda boda riders which resulted in barricading of roads by angry boda boda riders, only to be resolved by a round table negotiation between Zombo district leaders, some URA staff, and the leadership of Zombo boda boda association.

The disgruntled boda boda riders by then threatened to torch U.R.A offices.

Saviour Jakony, a boda boda rider from Say Kwo Stage Paidha town council said” The RDC is very right. The approach of URA is not good at all, and they are too arrogant. Some of them have their own motives”.

The clash between URA officers and locals in the border District of Zombo always emanates from a high number of unregistered motorcycles.

Zombo boda boda association comprises 1500 members. The chairperson Freddy Onenarach during a press briefing with Journalists from Zombo Press Association has appealed to the URA in charge to bring services nearer to the riders so that they register their motorcycles at ease.

“The biggest challenge we have is that the service center for registering motorcycles is in Arua which is very far. Many Of these riders find it hard we therefore appeal to the URA to bring that service nearer in Greater Nebbi”, Onenarach noted

The charge URA west Nile subregion Silvester Kiwanuka has equally called for better coordination between leaders, URA, and the community for the effective running of businesses across the region.

” I would like to request the community and all the Leaders to work with us for the effective running of businesses across the region, but the issue of violence should not be happening”, Kiwanuka said.
