The office of the prime minister under the northern Uganda support to vulnerable groups has warned beneficiaries of different groups in Pakwach district over sabotaging the project. #WhisperEyeNews
The five groups were receiving 110 goats delivered by the state minister for Northern Uganda aimed at fighting against poverty and promoting self-reliance through the accretion of household income and elimination of hunger
Presenting the state minister for Northern Uganda, Insha Ntumbwa the deputy RDC Pakwach said it upward that past government program such as NUSAF, and PRDP has collapsed due to negligence and it’s time for the government to devise a mechanism of arresting the perpetrators and charging them for failure to become rich and would force them to learn from prison
“it’s unfortunate that with all the interventions government has channeled to fight rural poverty, people still don’t have anything too tangible show and what annoys most is that the failure attributed to poor mindset, for this particular one we would force you to learn from the prison if we report any case of mismanagement” Insha warned.
Despite rallying leaders and beneficiaries to coordinate and monitor interventions of various programs and policies in the district to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services to the citizens, Muswa Charles the principal accounting officer of the district emphasized the urgent need for inculcation of ownership
“We shall over time make prompt visits to the groups to assess the progress. We don’t want to hear that the goats are taken as dowry for marriage and let’s become agents of change in our communities”
Of the five benefiting groups in Pakwach, each received 22 high-breed goats with each goat estimated at a cost of Shs 500,000 after meeting all the procurement processes.
Dorothy Awori the secretary of production applauded the office of Prime Minister Want’s creation of linkages and synergies between various interventions and contributions to program ownership strengthen through intensified supervision and monitoring
Dorothy adds: “As secretary of production I’m happy that these supplies are in line with the demand and the needs of the group after they were consulted on what they want with this I hope the story of perpetual poverty would be a history among our youths in this district”.
Odarwa Stephen a group leader of Wamikrir Youth a modal group in Panyango Sub County expressed commitment to embrace the project describing it “rubber bullet” against poverty in the community
He said they intend to expand groups in other villages to cater for more needy youths who are wallowing in poverty
Under the Northern Uganda rehabilitation program in the office of the prime minister, the Pakwach district local government implemented both the NUSAF 1&2 Program as well the DINU supported by European Union.
Northern Uganda remains a big contributor to the national poverty index as per the data from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS)
