Foot Soldiers disappointed by top NUP leaders, set tough terms ahead of 2026 elections

Bickering and in-fights in the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s leading opposition party are far from over as accusations and counter-accusations continue to be thrown at each other regardless of rank or file. #WhisperEyeNews

Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, aka Bobi Wine the party President joins the list of party leaders facing the wrath of angry party members.

Bobi’s renowned attack dogs, the “foot soldiers,” turned guns on their bosses accusing them of betraying the cause due to the lavish lifestyle with their family and inaction on the famous political slogan of “We removing a dictator.”

The foot soldiers’ agitation and anger followed a recent wave of arrests by the state of some foot soldiers/youths close to Bobi Wine after a failed economic shutdown campaign. Most of those arrested were charged with terrorism and remanded.

The Lord Woman Councillor for Kawempe North Nusifa Nakato, a renowned Bobi “attack dog” went on her Facebook and Twitter accounts and asked security agencies to arrest Bobi Wine instead of foot soldiers because they are innocent. “Arrest H.E Bobi Wine, Lewis Rubongoya too. Stop arresting foot soldiers, ‘ffetetulina kyetumanyi’.” Nusifa posted.

Another foot soldier Bobi Young shared the same sentiments. Many foot soldiers interviewed requested anonymity but they shared Nusifa and Bobi Young’s assertion that foot soldiers were being used as bait between Bobi Wine and security organs who are the real beneficiaries of what they referred to as political/security stunts.

Relatedly, David Lewis Rubongoya wasn’t spared either in the lasted social media outbursts.

The NUP secretary-general is being accused of leaking their “secrets” to security agencies according to foot soldiers, something he has clearly denied on several occasions.

In one of the video recordings, female activist in diaspora Olivia Katende warns Bobi Wine of a powerful leader at the NUP headquarters and his close confidant whom activists approached in preparation for the failed 8th-May economic shutdown for support.

That person allegedly asked the activists for their budget which they handed to him plus all the details of their plans including the locations. Olivia says that security forces started arresting the activists as soon as the group had shared the information with the said powerful NUP leader even before the planned date of the economic shutdown.

Another foot soldier close to Chairman Nyanzi confirmed that the top leadership was indeed responsible for the arrest of the foot soldiers.

In what seemed like a response to the accusations, Rubongoya took to his Facebook and posted this encrypted message along with his own photo. “A struggle is no struggle without challenges, trials, and tribulations. There will be good days and bad days. There will be days of hope and days of despair. Times of Joy and times of sorrow. Days when the sky is clear and days when it’s cloudy. Yet in all this, we keep moving because of the unwavering faith that Uganda deserves better and that every citizen deserves to live in dignity.”

A reliable source close to Kamwokya’s political base told Us, that the NUP secretary general is no longer facing the secretary for the informal sector Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu locally known as Chairman Nyanzi who is Bobi Wine’s elder brother although Whisper Eye has ably refuted these allegations.

Chairman Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu and Lewis have been in close discussions to see the success of Kunga Kunga Uganda, while in Kyenjojo the two faced the wrath of the struggle.
