The accident occurred at around 3:00 AM on Sunday morning at Bulwadda village along Ssembabule – Gomba road. The deceased was traveling in a private car from a wedding in Masaka which collided with a heavy truck, together with other five people who were seriously injured.

Matovu and colleagues decided to use the Mpigi – Gomba – Ssembabule road as the alternative road after the collapse of the Katonga Bridge which blocked the Kampala – Masaka highway.

Road users are complaining that Mpigi-Gomba- Ssembabule road is narrow with many corners and can’t afford heavy traffic. Thus questioning their counterparts to avoid speeding and drive carefully to prevent accidents on this road as they wait for the construction of the Katonga Bridge on the Kampala- Masaka highway.

Mawokota South Fishermen Emyooga SACCO chairperson Kyazze Ben advises those traveling from and to Masaka to use the Kiwami- Namirembe route on Lake Victoria which connects Kayabwe to Katonga to reduce traffic on Mpigi-Gomba-Ssembabule road and save time as this route is the shortest alternative route now.

KIU students eulogize Matovu as a leader with a vision to transform their University and had started making various reforms.

“As a leader, he looked forward to implementing various activities under the guild union for example medical camps organized in different regions in the country, Inter faculty sports, Cultural Associations activities, and the trade bazaar among others,” said a student at KIU.

“He innovated new ideas that promote students’ free involvement and participation at the University,” he added.

Matovu was sworn in as the third Guild president for the KIU Western campus on 19 April 2023 during a colorful ceremony held at the Basketball court at the University.
