Exclusive: Bobi Wine successfully aid journalists to halt UJA elections in high Court

The president of Uganda’s leading opposition party: National Unity Platform (NUP) who is also the former MP for Kyadondo East, hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine successfully aided a section of journalists to halt thier leadership elections organised by Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) that had been scheduled to take place next Saturday (25/02/2023).

Reliable source told Whisper Eye News, that Mr Wine met a section of journalists in late December 2022 and master minded the plan to overthrow the current UJA leadership headed by Vision Group journalist Mathias Rukundo.

“In our meeting Hon Kyagulanyi was concerned about the current UJA leadership, he promised his support to us to elect new leadership,” says the source.

When the source was asked which criteria did Mr Kyagulanyi use to invite a section of journalists in this meeting, we were informed that the organisers called a few pro- Bobi Wine journalists who were about 37 in numbers.

Mr Wine ordered his suave lawyers of Pace Advocates led by George Musisi and Counsel Katana Benjamin who is also a partner of Pace Advocates to provide legal aid in the background as a technical move to achieve the target.

Daily Monitor photographer Abubaker Lubowa, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, Emmanuel Nkata, Hasifu Sekiwunga, and Martin Kimbowa are the applicants who dragged UJA, and it’s current president Mathias Rukundo, and Secretary General Mathias Rukundo to Civil Division of the High Court in Kampala.

The applicants say that the defendants eliminated them from contesting from various positions violating the Association constitution.

High Court Justice Musa Ssekaana stayed the UJA elections and set 28/02/2023 date for mention.

Mr Rukundo say that the applicants are not fully registered members of UJA and failed to raise minimum requirements to contest for any post on UJA executive.

Earlier this month, a section of journalists also tried to block president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s meeting with journalists at Kyambogo University recently, but the organisers learnt about thier move early enough and worked against the move, thus leading to futile camping.

After thier failure to bloc the meeting, they moved quickly to concentrate on the court case, thus achieving early victory on Friday after securing the an interim injunction the forthcoming elections for journalists’ supreme body, Uganda Journalists Association.
