Muntu cowardly left because he lost the party Presidential polls to Amuriat, says FDC

The Forum for Democratic Change (@FDCOfficial1) has reminded the world about the highest-ever contested party presidential race between Mugisha Muntu and Patrick Oboi Amuriat in November 2017 which left the party divided. #WhisperEyeNews

Using its Twitter handle, the Najanankumbi-based party said Mugisha Muntu only cowardly left because he felt small and unwanted after losing to the current Party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

Muntu announced his exit in 2018 after a meeting with the FDC leadership at Fair Way Hotel in Kampala. It is in the very meeting where Muntu laid to the FDC leadership the outcomes of his country-wide consultations between January and September 2018 by his camp that gave him a conclusion that he had to leave the party.

In his speech, Muntu indicated that the implications of the outcome of the party’s Presidential elections in November 2017 left the party divided between those who wanted to use defiance to oust Gen Museveni from power and those that wanted to build party structures as a basis to defeat Museveni using elections.

On March 2019, Muntu formed his new party, the Alliance for National Transformation.

Sources close to Muntu told this media that the 2-star General was betrayed by Dr. Kizza Besigye who believed that Muntu was not robust enough to push the ideology of defiance that FDC should use as a tool to defeat Museveni.

Besigye has on several occasions indicated that elections cannot push Museveni out of power while Mugisha Muntu has on many occasions said that an organized party with structures can defeat Museveni hands down in an election.
