Newly appointed Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hon @NorbertMao is already having a lot of work to do falling in his docket.

Hon Norbert Mao rescue us, we are silently dying in prison, we are innocent, jailed MP Ssegirinya Mohammed & Ssewayana Allan today cried out. #WhisperEyeNews

Less than a week after assuming office, imprisoned members of parliament who have spent over 10 months under detention Hon Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West and Hon Ssegirinya Mohammed of Kawempe North have asked him to save them from allegedly being ‘detained illegally.’

The two legislators were arrested for allegedly being connected to the Masaka murders that saw over 30 locals being killed by panga-wielding men. Since then, the court has been denying them bail while the government has also on several occasions failed to present evidence linking the two to the murders.

On Tuesday this week, Hon Ssegirinya’s mother met with Hon Mao at his Ministerial office crying out and asking the Minister to save his son from the suffering he is undergoing in prison.

Mao only promised her a fair trial for his son but did not commit himself to say that he will help him get released from Prison.

Ssegirinya and Ssewayana on the numerous times they have been brought to court, denied being connected to the crimes committed in Masaka adding that these are cooked-up charges by the state to dent their images and make them suffer for supporting Hon Robert Kyagulanyi ssentamu.
