Nicholas Mugerwa faces criminal investigations for using NGO to sabotage govt work

Uganda authorities have officially commenced investigations into the alleged “unlawful activities” of Mr. Tamale Nicholas Mugerwa and his organization (Rural Community Initiative for Development) a Ugandan community-based organization in Kalungu district. #WhisperEyeNews

This follows various complaints by the area RDC and various security authorities that the organization was de-campaigning government programs and engaging in partisan politics.

According to our sources, a district security meeting chaired by the RDC discussed and tabled evidence that showed that Mr. Tamale is recruiting youthful Kalungu residents into the National Unity Platform (NUP) structures in the disguise of helping the area youth.

It allegedly said that on 7th June 2022, the Minister of Defence Mr. Vincent Sempijjja demanded an investigation leading up to possible de-registration of Rural Community Initiative for Development (RUCID) after it was discovered that Tamale was involved in de-campaigning government programs and actively recruiting youths to join Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentam National Unity Platform Party ” contrary to the objects for which it was registered.

However other sources within the district indicate that resolution has been made and Mr. Tamale faces arrest very pretty soon on various crimes ranging from criminal acts related to his organization.

This action smacks of the systemic narrowing of civic space, especially for organizations that are critical of the government in Uganda according to people familiar with Mr. Tamale’s side of the story.

Rural Community Initiative for Development was registered by Kalungu District Local Government council on March 20th, 2012 under the Community Development department as a Community Development Group .organisation.

Mr. Tamale is also the Senior community development officer of Kalungu District, and a resident of Kalungu Village, Kalungu ward in Kalungu Town council Kalungu district.

Our efforts to get a comment from Mr. Tamale were futile despite our repeated efforts.
