Today morning at around 4:00 am, disgruntled residents of Kabaawo Zone in Rubaga south constituency blocked Ssembule road by burning old tyres in the middle of the road protesting the skyrocket prices of commodities in the country.
Residents say that commodities like fuel, sugar, soap, and maize flour, are increasing day after day. Fuel price a little is now at above 65,000/= both petrol and diesel, while a kilogram of maize flour has clocked 3800/= around Kabaawo Zone, Kitebi, Mutundwe.
“We can’t afford to buy maize flour, it is too expensive. When we ask traders why prices are going up, they say it is caused by the high prices of fuel especially diesel,” one of the residents told Whisper Eye News.
“This is just the beginning, we’re planning a mega protest if the government does not reduce taxes on essential commodities. The cost of living is too high to afford,” the resident added.
Police from Nateete successfully dispersed them and put off the fire from the road to clear traffic flow.
