Last Friday 27th May 2022, the NUP Mzee Kibalama group called a delegates conference where he was elected the acting president, and the vice president of the party. Just days after the delegates’ conference Mzee Kibalama told Whisper t News that they are looking up to rebranding their party.
He said that they are going to start with massive recruitment of new members and focus on discipline among party members.
“We started this party with a very clear mission and vision, we can not achieve them if there is no discipline in the party,” says Mzee Kibalama.
“It is unfortunate that some of our new members are insulting and using abusive language against leaders, and leaders of other political parties. This is not part of our mission nor objectives,” he explained.
Mzee Kibalama asked all NUP legislators, LC. V Chairpersons and all leaders elected in various positions in 2021 to register with the party to renew their membership in a period of two weeks.
And the exercise will be headed by Mr. Simbwa Paul Kagombe who was elected as the new secretary-general replacing Mr. David Lewis Rubongoya who was elected the new secretary for research in absentia.
However, NUP Nakawa West legislator who was replaced as the party spokesperson by Kibalama group Joel Basekeezi Ssenyonyi said that the party (NUP) has never called for any delegates conference and disowned Kibalama led national executive committee.
Sources close to NUP MPs intimated to Whisper Eye News that the legislators have started panicking about what is going on within their party. Many claims that they have no details about party’s crucial documents including the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which people power and NUP, and the constitution of the party.
