Former Cranes Captain Andy Mwesigwa identifies what led the Cranes CHAN hauler campaign

Andy Mwesigwa captained the cranes for almost five 5 playing mainly in the central defence and sometimes as right back.

Mwesigwa had his say about Cranes’ disastrous campaign in the CHAN Tournament that is still under way in Cameroon with the Cranes taking an early exit after failing to win even single game.

Mwesigwa has attributed the poor performance to a number of factors. First, Mwesigwa says the poor team selection costed the cranes adding that the some players that made it to the final squad were not good enough to represent the country.

Mwesigwa also added that the team defence was poorly organized and lacked a commander. Having played in defence, Mwesigwa says that a good team must have a organized defence with a commander who organises and assigns duties to the rest. Mwesigwa says that it looked like everyone was playing on his own which brought alot of defence mix ups making the cranes pay a high price.

Mwesigwa also said that some players were getting their first international challenges and thus lacked the expertise and composure on such a big stage.

“Some players were playing for the first time on an international scene. Most of them were not used to the flood lights and the pitches. Everyone has ever gone through that. Its understandable.” He added
