Togo bruises Uganda by 2-1 in the CHAN match day two

It is now a mountain to climb for the Uganda Cranes as they must win their last game against Morrocco if they are to highlight their chances of going past the group stages.

The cranes came into this game with only one point which they secured against Rwanda in a goalless draw on matchday one. Togo came into this game with no point having lost their opener against Morocco.

In today’s game, the cranes looked like they had the upper hand statistically but things didn’t go as planned. The first half reflected the whole complex of the game as the Togolese created more chances than the Cranes. However no clear goal-scoring opportunity presented itself for either team making the first half ended goallessly.

The cranes started the second half on a bad note as they conceded a goal as early as the 49th minute courtsey of an own goal from defender Patrick Mboowa. However the cranes responded quickly two minutes late thanks to a thunderbolt long range strike from substitute Sayid Kyeyune who replaced Captain Tony Mawejje.

The goal motivated the cranes and it looked like they had gained control of the game only for the Togolese Striker Richard Nane to pour cold water on the cranes 6 minutes later through a wonderful shot almost a carbon copy of Sayid Kyeyune’s goal.

The cranes from then lost control of the game making several mistakes in the defence and losing position severally in the last quarter of the pitch. The mistakes almost made the Cranes conceed more goals but thanks to the shot stopper Charles Lukwago who was so alert and gave a life line to the cranes.

The game ended 2-1 in favour of the Sparrow Hawks. This places the cranes last in the group with only one point since Rwanda managed to secure a point against the Moroccans.
