The Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Norbert Mao has endorsed the re-election of bid of the Deputy speaker of parliament and incumbent Omoro County legislator, Jacob Oulanyah.
Addressing the media in Gulu city before winding up his campaigns, Mao, said he has known Oulanyah for the last 30 years and seen his usefulness.
He noted that he has a long history with Oulanyah despite being from different political parties and asked the people of Omoro to decide well as they cast their votes.
Lyandro Komakech, the Democratic Party Chief Whip and incumbent Gulu Municipality MP also said that Oulanya has performed well in the 10th Parliament.
He revealed that the Deputy Speaker offered the technical guidance in the house that won him a higher reputation and is best suited to become the next speaker of parliament.
The endorsement by the DP officials comes a few hours after Oulanyah told URN on Monday that he is not only battling to retain his parliamentary seat but also to become the speaker in the next Parliament.
Oulanyah explained that his bid for the speakership in the 10th Parliament was shattered by the Presidential directive to allow the incumbent speaker, Rebecca Kadaga to serve her second term just like her predecessors.
However, as Oulanyah battles to succeed Rebecca Kadaga, he faces four other candidates in the race for Omoro County.
They are Andrew Olal Obong, an independent, Julius Okello from the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT, Engineer Terence Odonga from the Forum for Democratic Change and NRM’s Secondo Okot Abok.
DP did not front a candidate in the Omoro parliamentary race.
