The Electoral Commission has delivered voting materials for the 404 polling stations in Rukungiri District ahead of next week’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections. They were handed over to Abas Namara, the Rukungiri District Returning Officer.
According to Abas Namara, the Rukungiri District returning officer, the arrival of the materials shows is an indication that the commission is prepared for the elections.
“Polling materials have arrived and we shall embark on other activities including the dispatch of the materials to the polling stations. Sub counties far away from the district headquarters. We are ready for this exercise.” Namara said.
Godfrey Katuguka who represented the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party said that he is concerned about the security of the materials saying that instead of keeping them at the electoral commission offices they would have kept them at the police until polling dates.
John Mugume from the NRM party said unlike the previous elections, the commission has this time round delivered the materials on time.
There are 180, 748 registered voters in the district, 404 polling stations and 87 parishes in 16 sub-counties, divisions and town councils.
In Kalangala, the materials were received by Misango Edmund the District Returning Officer has unveiled the materials to the Political Party representatives at the office of the District Registrar in Kalangala Town Council.
Fred Tamale, who represented the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party asked the polling officers to handle the boxes in a transparent way to avoid suspicion from the voters.
