Equal Opportunities Commission chairperson Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi has finally been released on bail by the Anti-corruption court based in Kololo.
The Anti – Corruption Court magistrate ordered Ms Ntambi a lawyer by profession to pay cash bail of UGX 3.5million , deposit her travel documents and also deposit her land title of Block 226 plot 541 a private mailo land at Kyadondo .
The EOC had three sureties among which the CEO of LASPNET Sylvia Namubiru which court asked a non-cash bond of UGX 44 million .
Court asked it’s sureties to ensure the accused appears to court whenever needed.
Ms Ntambi was recently charged with nine EOC officals after the DPP amended the charge sheet and included her.
Ntambi is accused of various counts among which conspiracy to defraud government and negligence of duty .
However her troubles reportedly started when she refused to sign a big tender that required EOC to rent Kampala Kingdom office space after which she received dozens of calls from its directors and officals.
It’s after her continued refusal to sign a shs 2.5 billion contract that she started getting numerous threats from unknown people that it took only few weeks that a case that was dragging on for one year to be amended to include her as an accused number 10.
The big tender involved EOC paying shs 207 millions monthly to Kingdom Kampala owned by city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia and various staff at EOC believe it’s the back up reason that Ntambi was charged so that she is out of office for a tender to be signed by the acting chairperson.
EOC boss who is not the accounting officer of the commission being charged of cases related to mismanagement of government funds is not sustaining where the accounting officer is the secretary to the commission. One EOC official name with held told Whisper Eye.
She was also accused of tribalist recruitment at the government agency by a whistle blower despite the fact that it’s only two baganda members at the agency.
The case has been adjourned to November 24th, 2020 for mention as the police asked for more time to conclude it’s investigations.
