Bantariza was a dedicated cadre, says Museveni. Whisper Eye Reports

Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has joined other Ugandans to mourn government’s deputy spokesperson, Col Shaban Bantariza .

Col Bantariza succumbed to the deadly  Covid-19 at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala where he had been admitted in intensive care unit.

President Museveni described the former Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson as a dedicated cadre who worked for Uganda’s liberation and development.

“He was eloquent as he spoke for the UPDF and government. Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace,” president Musevenit posted on his official social media account.

Bobi Wine eulogizes

I have learnt about the sudden death of Deputy Government Spokesperson, Col. Shaban Bantariza. I extend my sympathy to his family and friends.

Kyadondo East MP Hon Robert Kyagulanyi tweeted before saying..” I have also read very many unkind comments about him on social media. It never used to be like this, but may be this reflects the growing wedge between our rulers and those who are ruled. My prayer is that this will cause deep reflection amongst all of us.

In death, we are reminded that all of us are equal and share a common destiny as human beings, as we await God’s judgement. Therefore, while we’re still alive, we should try to do what is good and what is right to all kinds of people regardlessof their social status. May we also learn never to put our trust in anything else, except God, who alone is immortal. Nothing should ever replace humanity and humility. The Banyankore say, “ensi egyi n’omushenyi”(this world is nothing but sand). While we still live, we owe it upon ourselves and those yet to come to be humble and do good.

Unlike some comrades who celebrate when their oppressors die, I personally feel sad when they die. I always wish that they live much longer and witness a New Uganda which is governed with fairnes, justice and love.

Col Bantariza’s death happened hours before the Ministry of Health said Covid-19 fatalities had risen to 103 following two more virus deaths in Kampala.

The Ministry further reported 64 new infections as confirmed cases on Tuesday rose to 11,621.

A total of 7,400 people who previously tested positive for the virus but recovered after treatment have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

A total of 539, 146 samples have been tested for Covid-19 since March this year when the virus outbreak was confirmed in the country
