Ivory Tower of Makerere University burns out. Whisper Eye Reports.

Strong fire has gutted the right side of Makerere University Main building last nite.

At Around 2am thick smoke and fire were seen bollowing from the right side of the building as the fire fighters from Uganda Police Force were fighting to put out the ?.

“The fire brigade is on the ground. Everyone is trying their best. The fire is heavy and sprouting from the right side of the Building.

The fire flames are heavy coming through the right side of the roof which has sunk in. We all need to pray for the Ivory Tower.”

By press time the cause of the fire had not been established.

Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922.

Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

Ugandans mainly former students took to social media about the fire.

According to police, investigations are on to establish the cause of the fire.
