In February 2020, Uganda’s parliament was invaded by two men who jumped from gallery into the plenary that caused panic among legislators.

The incident happened at around 4:00pm as MPs debated Lands state minister Persis Namuganza’s statement on the Land Information System International conference which was scheduled for February 20-21 in Entebbe.

Following the attack, the house became chaotic when the two men who were identified as Dafala Ssenjako and Mutasa Kafeero Charles started punching the MPs indiscriminately including Nwoya MP, Simon Oyet and state minister for Sports, Hamson Obua who fought back.

While jumping from the gallery to the floor of parliament, Ssenjakko and Mutasa also damaged the railing and fluorescent tube which sparked off a sharp noise that many mistook for gunshots.

They jumped to where the MPs sat on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) side.

Ssenjakko and Mutasa who were donning red Barrets and it was confirmed that they’re members of The RedTop Brigade Uganda opposed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s leadership.

They entered parliament distributing documents titled “A letter to Africa and Uganda, stop cropping out citizens.”

They also claimed corruption that is eating up the country starts from parliament.

Immediately they were arrested and detained in Luzira maximum prison and after a couple of weeks they were released on court bail.

They are expected back in court at City Hall today Monday September 7, 2020, at 9am.
