Exclusive: How the red barret was introduced in Uganda’s politics by RedTop Brigade commander Mutasa Kafeero. Whisper Eye Reports

The Red Top Brigade Uganda founders Mutasa Kafeero Charles and and Ssenjakko Dafala introduced the red barret in Uganda’s politics in 2014.

Mutasa Kafeero is a presidential candidate, cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest in the forthcoming general elections.

In an exclusive interview Mr Mutasa told Whisper Eye news that after he was exposed to political movements and struggle in Afghanistan and Iraq he was convinced that the red barret could change Uganda’s politics.

Mutasa Kafeero and his colleague Dafala started National Youth Activists in 2012.

And in 2014 they changed the name to The RedTop Brigade Uganda.

In the same year 2014 they introduced the red Barret as their symbol.

The red barret of The RedTop Brigade has two features, a lion which stands for strength and greatness and the crested crane which stands for identity as the country.

According to Commander Mutasa Kafeero, that since 2012 they worked with Rtd Col. Dr Kiiza Besigye, and they were instrumental in 2016 general elections and post elections activities.

When asked his feelings seeing many people donning a red barret, Commander Mutasa said that he is happy to see Ugandans wearing a red barret.

“I’m happy that many people now can don the red barret. In 2014 up to 2016 people could fear waring it thinking it is a reserve of the army”, says commander Kafeero.

The RedTop Brigade Uganda is known for fighting corruption and graffiti of public funds.

Commander Mutasa and Dafala early this year in February jumped from the public gallery into the Parliament plenary in what they called fighting corruption in the country.

Many MPs were scared and struggled to run out of the plenary.
