Terrible: Kampala demands more 300 millions litres of water per day

Terrible: Kampala City demands more 300 millions litres of water per day. Whisper Eye Updates.

The National Water and Sewage Cooperation (NWSC) has embarked on a project to increase water supply in Kampala Capital to meet the water shortage of estimated 300million liters.

NWSC to serve more 400million litres of water to Kampala city.

Currently NWSC produces 240million litres of water per day from Ggaba water works.

The demand has shot up to more than 300 million litres of water per day as a result of the mushrooming population and developments in the city.

We are working on massive infrastructure to add over 160million litres of water per day to Kampala. The combined production from Ggaba (240million litres /day) and Katosi (240million litres design capacity and 160 production for phase 1) will produce a total of 400million litres of water per day and bridge the water supply gaps in the city by February 2020.” Eng Silver Mugisha said.

Dr. Silver said that Katosi project will solve water supply challenges in Kungu, Najjera, Kulambiro, parts of Ntinda, Ssonde, Gayaza, Kanyanya, Kyaliwajjala, Kira, Kitikifumba, Matugga, Kawanda, Mukono, Wakiso and other areas experiencing water supply challenges in the Kampala Metropolitan service area.

“The NWSC in partnership with the Danish business is working on a new water works at Kaazi along Entebbe road,” says Mr Mugisha.

The water works when completed will boost water supply along Entebbe road, Mpigi, Wakiso and the surrounding areas

Manager Infrastructure projects supervision Eng Herbert Mujuni told press that Katosi water supply project is 75% complete with all civil works done.

“The contractor is installing electoral mechanical equipment and system tests will start in December to March 2021” he assured city dwellers.

If this project is completed there is hope that there will be a decrease among water borne diseases in Kampala and improved sanitation.
