Presidential race: 9 presidential hopefuls have picked nomination forms from EC head offices in Kampala. Whisper Eye Reports

Today about nine presidential hopefuls have picked nomination forms from Electoral Commission (EC) head offices at Jinja road, Kampala.

The aspiring candidates include; Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU) presidential candidate Charles Bbaale, Harold Nuwasima, Kitsa Bunnet Eric, John Katumba, Joshua Isingoma Mugisa and Bob Akileng,Christopher Rugaba, Fred Mwesigye, and Maj. (Rtd) Joseph Mwambazi, who are all independents.

The Electoral Commission has started issuing nomination forms and nomination guidelines for Presidential Elections, 2021, with nine (9) aspiring candidates collecting the documents on the first day, Monday 10th August 2020.

According to EC’s Acting spokesman Paul Bukenya told Whisper Eye news this evening that the Commission is ready to receive all potential presidential candidates.

“Aspirants also collected supporter forms, which will be used to accumulate signatures indicating the support of not less than 100 registered voters in each of at least two thirds of all the districts of Uganda.

Each presidential aspirant must at leat get not less than 100 voters from two thirds of 135 districts in Uganda.

Over 50 aspirants were cleared by the EC to hold consultation meetings before Covid-19 pandemic lock down.

However some of them withdrew their presidential candidature, including environment activist Timothy Mugerwa of Green New Deal who declared his support to Hon Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu.

Nomination of Candidates for Presidential Elections is scheduled for November ahead of the 2021 general elections.

The aspirants, if nominated, will tussle it out with Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who was nominated unopposed by his National Resistance Movement (NRM) and is respected to pick nomination forms any time.

The EC has questioned voters and aspiring candidates and their agents to comply with Covid-19 preventive measures recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) including; the of wearing masks, washing hands, use of sanitizers and observance of social distancing ‘Tonsemberera’.
