Big Story: DP massively recruits hundreds in Pallisa, as NUP is yet to register a single member. Whisper Eye Reports
The opposition Democratic Party (DP) has recruited over 150 new party members in Pallisa district as we draw close to the general elections expected early next year.
DP leaders in Pallisa district launched a mass recruitment campaign for the party in the area last week to energies Uganda’s oldest political party.
According to Okoler Opio Enock 2020 DP candidate for Publicity secretary on the National Executive Committee (NEC) , they have recruited many new members who have joined DP in Palisa.
Whisper Eye has learnt that mainly the 150 new members are from Villages of Awokei B, Awokei A, Okutai C, Odepai, Boliso trading Center, Putiputi West and Lalamot in Pallisa district.
“There is nothing called National Unity Platform (NUP) here that is why it is important for us as opposition to move out of Buganda to sell our political parties,” says Mr Okoler.
“DP will not go into extinction as many think because we are recruiting young blood into the party from all regions of the country,” he added.
According to Mr Okoler the Democratic Party is set to elect young leaders in the forthcoming delegates conference as a way of encouraging young leaders be adopted and recruited into the Party.
DP will not go into extinction as many think because we are recruiting young blood into the party from all regions of the country, DP ought to elect youthful leaders into her NEC for it to be able to mobilize the young persons into the part, I think that this period is good for DP to moult into a better party with nationalistic character and without elements that think that the party rotates around them, those that think that they are bigger than the party should be left to go after all they are advanced in age but also in the eve of their political careers. They had to go anyway!” Mr Okoler stated.
Mr Okoler advised opposition to make a meaningful coalition based on democracy principles to face off president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2021.
