Outspoken Kasambya County legislator Gaffa Mbwatekamwa is shifting his political base to Igara County West in Bushenyi district in a face off with president Museveni’s blue eyed boy, the Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi.

MP Mbwattekamwa has made a controversial unexpected turn to change constituency of representation.

The legislator has represented Kasambya county in Mubende districy since 2016.

He was born and raised in Gongo village in Igara, Bushenyi district.

The vocal MP has already picked nomination forms from the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party headquarters at Kyadondo, Kampala to contest for Igara West parliamentary seat.

A reliable source intimate to the Electoral Commission (EC) has told Whisper Eye News that Mr Mbwattekamwa has made a transfer from Kasambya county, to Igara West where he will vote from in the forthcoming general elections.

“MP Mbwattekamwa has transferred his name from Kasambya, and now is a fully registered voter in Igara West constituency,” says the source.

Mr Mbwatekamwa is one of the NRM legislators who were branded rebels for voting against party positions in Parliament.

In 2017, he voted against amendment of Article 102 (b) which removed Age limit from the constitution of Uganda giving green lits to life presidency to president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, during the famous ‘Togikwatako’ campaign.

In 2018 when Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine started People Power, Our Power Movement, MP Mbwattekamwa initially stationed himself as a People Power ally.

However, recently he returned to the NRM party after a meeting with President Yoweri, the National Chairman of the ruling NRM.

“After serving the people of Mubende, now I’m ready to transfer the good ideas to my place of birth,’ says MP Mbwattekamwa.

Local government Minister Raphael Magyezi downplays the competition from MP Mbwattekamwa saying that picking forms does not mean contesting for the race.

He says the NRM party primaries follow the NRM constitution that requires to pick expression of interest before being nominated.
