Kampala Lord Mayor Hajji Ssalongo Erias Lukwago has officially joined Dr Kiiza Besigye’s party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) according to reports from FDC sources.

Yesterday news hit social media reporting that Lord Mayor Lukwago is planning to contest for Uganda’s presidency on FDC ticket.

However, a reliable source has reliably informed Whisper Eye that Lord Mayor Lukwago is planning to contest for Kampala City Lord mayorship for the third term on FDC ticket.

Opposition FDC party is expected to launch the new party member at party Headquarters in Najjanankumbi today at 10:00am.

The source further told Whisper Eye that FDC is planning a presidential candidate who will not be Dr Kiiza Besigye this time round.

However with total backing of Dr Besigye to represent the party in the forthcoming general elections.

Erias Lukwago was born on 11 May 1970 in Kabungo village Masaka present day Kalungu district.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law in 1997 from Makerere University, and in 1998 he was awarded a Diploma in legal practice in Law from Makerere Law Development Center.

Since 1998, Lukwago has worked as the managing partner in the offices of Lukwago and Co. Advocates, a Kampala law firm that specializes in constitutional law and human rights law.

In 2005 after his contribution as a Lawyer in Democratic Party (DP) court cases against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government he joined active politics.

In 2005, he was elected to the Ugandan Parliament, on the Democratic Party ticket backed by the youth wing of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), representing the Central Kampala Constituency.

While in parliament, he served on the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and on the Local Government Accounts Committee.

He resigned from Parliament in 2011 and was elected Lord Mayor of the City of Kampala.

Lukwago has in the past served as national legal adviser to the Democratic Party in Uganda, and as Shadow Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

On 20 May 2011, Lukwago was sworn in as Lord Mayor of Kampala for a five-year term.

In 2016 he was sworn in for his second term.

Lukwago since 2010 Mbale Delegates Conference has been at war with Moa led DP, with a sharp cold war with DP president Norbert Mao.
