President Museveni set to address Ugandans on Covid-19 situation on Tuesday

President Museveni is set to address the nation on Tuesday 21st July, 2020, on COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.

According to President Museveni’s Senior Press Secretary, Mr Don Wanyama, the president’s address will be aired Live on all local Television and Radio stations at 8PM.

In his address which will be the 18th ever since the covid-19 outbreak was declared in the country, Museveni is expected to guide further on measures to control the spread of coronavirus in Uganda.

The presidents address comes a day after confirmed cases in the country surpassed the 1000th mark following a surge in coronavirus cases observed in the last two months.

To date, Uganda has so far recorded 1,056 confirmed cases, 1,023 recoveries and no death.

In the recent address, President Museveni eased restrictions due to the spread of coronavirus, but since then there has been strong agitation for further ease of the lockdown from traders formerly operating in Shopping Arcades as well as religious leaders who want places of worship re-opened.

He also directed the ministry of trade, KCCA, and heath to conduct an assessment on shopping arcades to ascertain their readiness to operate under Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs). Ever since, 48 were approved to re-open but pending the president’s pronouncement.

Museveni also revealed government plan to distributed 3 radio sets to each homesteads to facilitate learning in homes after his initial idea of giving out TV sets was shot down by scientists since it involved congregating learners in one place.

Entebbe International Airports was also partially opened for Ugandan returnees who are stranded abroad following the lockdown on the country while commercial passenger flights remain banned.

Boda-Boda riders and public transport operators are also asking to be allowed to resume normal business.
