Opposition supporters of Tonse Alliance have started to celebrate after provincial results put Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera a head of his rival Professor Peter Mutharika.

In Lilongwe city, Malawians are celebrating claiming that Dr Chakwera has the presidential election rerun.

Speaking on the eve of the vote, the head of the electoral commission, Chifundo Kachale, said that he was confident that everything was ready despite the election date only being set a few weeks ago.

We expecting the MEC Chairperson Dr. Kachale to addresss the media shortly.

‘We expect the Commission to make its first official announcement of the results,’ says Tonse Alliance official.

Dr Aggrey Kiyingi has congratulated Tonse Alliance upon winning the presidential rerun.

“Uganda can look at Malawi rerun elections to defeat Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,’ says Dr Kiyingi.

Former Security minister Rtd Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde who also declared to contest with president Museveni in 2021 has congratulated Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

“Malawi has decided, Africa is looking at Uganda to follow suit in 2021. I congratulate the people of Malawi and Dr Lazarus Chakwera for winning the presidential rerun election,’ Gen Tumukunde said.

Environmentalist Mugerwa Timothy, told Whisper Eye that Uganda must learn from her fellow African states.

“I’m happy so see the the power of the people deciding who to lead then, Cong’s Malawi, Cong’s Dr Chakwera and Dr Chilima,’ says Mr Mugerwa.

Incumbent Professor Peter Mutharika won the May 2019 elections and reelected president of Malawi for the second.

In the controversial May, 2019, elections Peter Mutharika got 39%, Dr Lazarus Chakwera got 35%,
And Dr Chilima got 20%.

Dr Chilima went to court, and in February 2020 the Lilongwe
Court nullified Mutharika’s reelection for the second term.

Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Dr Chilima united and formed Tonse Alliance fronted Dr Lazarus Chakwera, and Dr Chilima as his running mate.

Dr. Lazaras Chakwera is president general of Malawi Congress Party (MCP)

He was elected the presidential Candidate for TONSE alliance with Dr Soulos Klaus Chillima of United Transformation Movement (UTM) Party and other opposition small parties.
