Road to 2021: Kasese Woman MP seat race attracts 20 against Winnie Kiiza

Road to 2021: Kasese Woman MP race attracts 20 against incumbent Winnie Kiiza . Whisper Eye Updates .

Kasese Woman MP race takes a new twist as 20 candidates to contest with incumbent Winnie Kiiza, People Power Coordinator speaks.

People Power Coordinator in Kasese Mr Kelly Bernards Nzaghale has advised Kasese women MP aspirants to consider contesting for other positions. Whisper Eye Updates.

About 20 strong Women so far have lined up to contest for the Kasese woman MP seat come 2021.

Among the aspirants include; Ms Ithungu Norah matsande NRM, Ms Kabugho Meryline Kihotha NRM, Ms Masika Sadress Kalegyo NRM, Ms Jane Asiimwe Muhindo NRM, Ms Sarah Ithungu Masereka NRM, Ms Lhusenge Doreen Sabiti NRM, Peace Edina Independent, Ms Kabugho Florance FDC among others.

Mr Kelly told Whisper Eye News that it is an advantage to see many women in politics, but there is a need to have them in positions to serve the People of Kasese.

‘I am really excited to see many women today being active in politics. This is attributed to the creation of the District woman Mp seat that helped to save women from competition,’ says Mr Kelly.

According to Mr Kelly hon Winnie Kiiza is still the favorite woman MP for the district.

However many of the aspirants on the post are strong ladies that can add much to Kasese if they win other elective offices.

Mr Kelly argues that the seat has empowered women and accorded equal status with men.

Women like Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, Dr. Specioza Kazibwe, Hon. Winnie Kiiza Nyabahasa and Hon. Loice Biirah Bwambale have opened eyes of many to believe in themselves.

‘I would like to however advise the women in Kasese that leadership doesn’t stop at Woman Mp seat,’ Mr Kelly said.

‘It’s not good competition to run for the same race while others can run for other seats including Mp. Bukonzo East, Bukonzo West, Busongora South, Busongora North and Kasese Municipality. Others could run for District LC5 and other positions,’ he added.

”This would really mean real empowerment than 20 people competiting for one seat that is already occupied by Hon. Winnie Kiiza who is still People’s favourite and is assured of a landslide victory, Mr Kelly said.”

Winifred Kiiza (Winnie) was born on 26 November 1972, in Nsenyi Village, Kisinga sub-county, Kasese district, in the Western Region of Uganda.

Her mother, Modesty Muke, was a supporter of the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) political party, while her father, Kanyere Constance Muke, belonged to the Democratic Party (DP).

Kiiza’s father died when she was ten years old, leaving her care and that of her siblings in the hands of a single unemployed mother.

She attended Nsenyi Primary School, Kajwenge Primary School and Kisinga Primary School for her elementary education.

For her O-Level studies, she attended Saadi Memorial Secondary School, transferring to Saint Maria Goretti School in Fort Portal, Kabalore district for her final two years of high school.

Later she attended National College of Business Studies (NCBS), in Nakawa, Kampala, at the time it transformed into Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

She served as the Leader of Opposition in the Ugandan Parliament, from May 2016 until August 2018. She was replaced as Leader of Opposition by Betty Aol Ochan.
