The outgoing president of Burundi Gen Pierre Nkurunziza is dead. Whisper Eye Reports.

According to Burundi government official twitter handle, the outgoing president suffered acadic arrest and died.

URGENT: The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, a statmet from the government reads.

At the Karusi Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital he suffered cardiac arrest on June 8, 2020. statement adds .

Brundi President Pierre Nkurunzizza has died of cardiac arrest at the Karusi Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital.

‘The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi,’ says Burundi government official.

“His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza was admitted at Anniversary Hospital following a cardiac arrest on June 8, 2020, he added.”

Pierre Nkurunziza was born in on 18th December 1964.

Elected as President of Burundi since 2005. Before his election, as the president of Burundi, he was the Chairman of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD)

Last month Burundi has popular presidential elections amidst Covid-19.

On 20th May, 2020 Evariste Ndayishimiye of the ruling CNDD–FDD was elected president with 71% of the vote.

In the National Assembly elections, the CNDD–FDD won 72 of the 100 elected seats.
