The candidate of Burundi’s ruling party, CNDD-FD, Gen Evariste Ndayishimiye, has won May 20’s presidential election. Whisper Eye Reports.
Results coming in from Burundi on Whisper Eye desk say Evariste Ndayishimiye swept 68.7% of the vote was the opposition candidate of CNL’s Agathon Rwasa got 24.1% ,and other five got 8%^
Burundi eletion went on despite the outbreak of covid-19.
On Monday evening CENI,Burundi electoral commission shared results showing the total registered voters in a country of 11 million people was 5.1 million, meaning voter participation stood at 87%.
The results indicate Evariste Ndayishimiye polled 3 million votes out of the total 4,313,704 votes counted.
83,690 votes (1.8%) were annulled .
CENI said out of 100 seats , the ruling party CNDD-FDD, swept 72 seats , CNL swept 27 seats and UPRONA trailed with 1 seat in the May 20 polls.
Ndayishimiye will be sworn-in as Burundi’s next President for a 7th term in August taking over from Pierre Nkurunziza .
