Lake Victoria high water levels caused by massive poor climate policy in Uganda, Mugerwa Timothy

Lake Victoria high water levels caused by massive poor climate policy in Uganda, Mugerwa Timothy

Uganda Green New Deal presidential candidate 2021 has blamed Uganda government’s failure to have a meaningful climate policy.

Mr Mugerwa said that the flooding Lake Victoria has been exposed to human activities which degrade the environment.

He said that human activities like deforestation, wetland encroachment, lake pollution, and and River degradation are responsible for the recent floods around lake Victoria.

“You have accepted the Chinese to encroach on wetlands, growing rice, degrading our Rivers, and people carrying out Lake pollution day and night freely,’ says Mr Mugerwa.

“We need a serious climate policy to combat such human activities if we are to save the environment, he added.”

The Environment activist told Whisper Eye that it is a shame to Uganda government not to respond to Climate Change in the country.

“Floods is a serious warning that something is wrong about nature. Floods are a result of changing climate,’ states Mr Mugerwa.

“I’m surprised the government is responding to Covid-19, which is a result of climate change and has failed to respond to Climate change. He said”

Mr Mugerwa advised the government to declare a Climate emergence in the country as a strategy to respond to climate change immediately.
