Uganda’s oldest political party Democratic Party (DP) is under a big test as the national delegates conference get nearer.

Former Luwero Woman MP Nabukenya Brenda declared on Thursday last week to challenge Mr Norbert Mao for the top seat.

After Nabukenya’s DP presidential bid announcement has sparked off violent comments from both party leaders and supporters.

Mr Mao who is the DP president referred to MPs against his third term as ‘Emomme’ which has caused all lot of debate on social media.

Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) research fellow Mr Tumuhairwe Denis, has hit back to Mr Mao.

“Norbert Mao led DP into supporting John Patrick Amama Mbabazi in 2016, But now says that supporting Bobi Wine’s People Power wave is being ‘#Emomme’,’says Tumuhairwe.

Democratic Party members of parliament last week hold a press conference challenging Mao’s party leadership.

MPs questioned top party officials, Norbert Mao, Ag. Secretary general Siranda Gerald blacks, and Vice President Fred Denis Mukasa Mbidde for failing the party.

DP is struggling with accountability issues as the MPs accuses Mr Siranda for misusing Party funds to buy groceries.

However Dr Siranda described them as members who desire nothing for the party.
