UNRA issues travel advisory  as Tangi river floods again

The Uganda National Roads Authority has issued a travel advisory on November 27, 2024,  urging  motorists against  movement across river Nile via Pakwach bridge  , as flooding continue to submerge  Tangi Junction, along Olwiyo- Pakwach road.

This follows November 27,   heavy downpour that pounded almost every parts of Northern Uganda.

The Authority said In a statement on X, formerly Twitter that the flooding has disconnected movement from Arua- Gulu and from Gulu to Kampala.

” We’ve received reports of flooding at Tangi Junction along the Olwiyo—Pakwach road affecting connectivity for travellers from Arua to Gulu and Gulu to Kampala” UNRA statement on X, formerly Twitter reads in part.

The authority added that  ” Motorists are STRONGLY advised to use alternative routes and avoid the flooded section as water levels continue to rise at this section”

Locals have since morning been sharing the photos and video footage of the floods, that has left travellers and motorists stranded and grounded respectively.

For years, River Tangi  has been bursting it’s bank disconnecting and disrupting activities for people of west Nile and Northern Uganda.

But for years, local leaders have been voicing their appeal for a long  time lasting solution for the deep seated  all- year round flooding at Tangi River.
