MUKONO: The courtroom fell silent. The cross-examination stopped. And for a moment, politics gave way to humanity.
Mukono Municipality MP Hon. Betty Nambooze sweated profusely in the witness box today at Mukono High Court, and was forced to request court to adjourn after experiencing physical exhaustion during an intense parliamentary election petition hearing.
It was a dramatic turn in a case that has kept Mukono on edge.
The petition was filed by PLU’s Daisy Sarah Nabatanzi Ssonko, challenging the election of Hon. Nambooze over bribery, and intimidation among others.
As the petitioner’s lawyer pressed on with a relentless cross-examination, the pressure began to show.
First, Hon. Nambooze requested for water.
Then, she requested for a chair.
Lastly, visibly exhausted, she requested the court for an adjournment.
Court granted the request, bringing the day’s proceedings to a sudden halt.
Those present described the cross-examination as intense, sustained, and unrelenting — the kind that tests not just a witness’s memory, but their stamina.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Further cross-examination is set to resume next Wednesday, when Hon. Nambooze is expected to return to the witness box to continue her testimony.
Until then, Mukono waits. The petition continues. And the courtroom drama is far from over.
