Uganda’s state minister for Labour has used a gun Ak-47 to intimidate his opponents in a do or die NRM party primaries in Rushenyi county yesterday.

Minister Rukuntana is the current area MP for Rushenyi constituency in Ntungamo on National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

National Unity Platform (NUP) president who also doubles as the legislator for Kyadondo East constituency Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine has condemned the incident saying that the struggle he offered him self as a leader is about taming the gun.

“Our struggle is about taming the gun! How do you explain a Minister using a gun to shoot at and intimidate his opponents in an election?,” MP Kyagulanyi asks.

“In a sane country, Mr. Rukutana should now be under arrest, and definitely he should have already resigned or removed from office. We have a lot of work to do to restore sanity to this our country,” he explained.

Yesterday Hon Rukuntana was defeated in the NRM party primaries by Ms Naome Kabasharira, the former Ntungamo Woman MP (1993-1996 (NRC), 1996-2001, and 2011-2016).

Mwesigwa Rukutana, is a Ugandan lawyer and politician.

He was also the Deputy Attorney General of Uganda.

He was transferred from attorney general chambers to Minister of State for Labour and he is currently Rushenyi County Member of Parliament on NRM ticket.

He was appointed to the post of deputy attorney general on 1 March 2015, replacing Fred Ruhindi.
