Nakawa Mayor aspirant Muwonge Daniel urges KCCA to let ease movement of Taxis as hundreds are stranded, walking on foot. Whisper Eye Reports.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) renown political activist Muwonge Daniel asks Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to ease movement of taxi in the the city to save stranded people on various stages and parks.
Mr Muwonge has criticized the baffling process of registering taxis in Kampala during this crisis period of Covid-19 pandemic though preventive measures like 7:00PM curfew, lock down among others.
“It is very unfair for the authorities to make taxi registration during this Covid-19 period.
Our drivers have spent over 75 days without earning income, and you push them to go for forceful registration which requires money, says Mr Muwonge.”
Muwonge has told Whisper Eye that he is willing to lead all stranded passengers to walk to Kampala City center in groups due to failure to find public means of transport.
“We argue KCCA to allow all taxis to work and the registration should be on going with advice of ministry of works and transport, the issue of sharing of stopping taxis from working in Uganda, will leave many unemployed, yet these taxis paid taxis on importation, they have been paying taxes to KCCA for operation in Kampala, Mr Muwonge said.”
Taxi stages of Luzira, Ntinda, Mbuya, Kiwatule, have been greatly affected, among others.
