In her comments , the speaker said that alcohol is very dangerous because it’s a fact that people who drink abandon their families and also a real fact that when men drink , they fail to perform.

‘It is a fact that when people drink, they abandon their families. It is also a fact that when you men drink, you even fail to perform.” She said

Her comments came after Minister Sarah Opendi requested the house to grant her a two weeks leave to introduce the bill on alcohol regulation titled the Alcohol Control bill 2022.

Her objective is to enact a comprehensive piece of legislation that contains provisions that address the prevailing circumstances regarding the consumption and challenges caused by the excessive use of alcoholic drinks particularly, to regulate the manufacture, importation, sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks, to license persons trading in alcoholic drinks and premises where alcoholic drinks are sold.

The bill is also to prohibit the sale of alcoholic drinks to specified persons, regulate the promotion and advertisement of alcoholic drinks as well as create public awareness on the dangers of excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks.
