Malawi incumbent president Pater Mutharika’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) monitor has been arrested with six national identity cards and six voter certificates.

Banda Mary a resident of Kajapi village in Inkosi Chindi area has been arrested today afternoon.

Ms Banda was found at Mbalachanda polling center in Mzimba for allegedly being found with six national identity cards and six voter certificates, trying to vote more than once which is contrary to the constitution.

Mzimba district returning Officer, who is also the district commissioner Emmanuel Bambe, has confirmed the development, saying police are still investigating the matter.

Mr Bambe has warned all citizens not to participate in vote rigging, he said that they are prepared to arrest anybody violating the electoral law.

Ms Banda is now detained at Mbalachanda Police Unit as investigations take cause.

The presidential reelections race is between incumbent Mutharika Peter and opposition TONSE alliance candidate Lazarus Chakwera.
