Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) organising secretary Jame Chuma was arrested yesterday while tryingbto escape from Malawi.

Mr Chuma was the leader of all government businesses in Malawi under former president Professor Peter Mutharika since August 2019.

The embattled Chuma was handed over to the police by the Immigration officers when he was trying to run out of the country through Mchinji border.

National Public Relations Officer Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services Mr Chauwa, has confirmed that Chuma is currently in the hands of the police.

According to Mr Chauwa, Chuma is to answer for gross human rights abuse of Malawi Citizens, torturing opposition parties supporters and embezzlement of State resources.

This follows Malawi Vice president H.E Dr. Saulos Chilima’s warning to witch hunt all those who brutalised Malawians for the sake of keeping Muthalika in power and gave them deadline to return all the money and government property they embezzled during the reign of Profesor Muthalika.

Businessman James Chuma was the man to talk to if anybody wanted any government business or favours from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) while in power.

He replaced the once flamboyant Leston Mulli.

Since August 2019, Chuma controlled all government businesses with him getting the lions share and in the end funding some of the parties strategic activities like the elections case, torturing opposition supporters of the then opposition political parties.
