Kenyan giant Gor Mahia release former Uganda cranes defender Shafiq Batambuze. Whisper Eye
Batambuze has been released by Kenyan Premier League club Gor Mahia on the final day of the transfer window ahead of the 2020/2021 season after his contract was on the verge of expiring with the Kenyan giants refusing to extend.
The left footed defender missed the greater part of last season after sustaining a knee injury during Gor Mahia’s crush with Aigle Noir of Burundi in the CAF Champions League in November last year.
It is said that the club failed to finance his operation due to financial problems which forced him to return to Uganda to seek treatment. In Uganda, he managed to undergo a successful operation after friends raised the UGX400, 000 that was needed for surgery.
Recently, he had returned to training in readiness for the new season only to be released by the club which means that the 26-year-old is now a free agent.
Batambuze previously played for Simba and SC Villa in Uganda, Muhoroni Youth, Western Stima, Sofapaka and Tusker in Kenya as well as a stint in Tanzanian Premier League side Singida United
