Express Hold Vipers at Wankulukuku

Low-key Express FC has held in form Vipers SC in a 1:1 draw at Betway Mutesa ll Stadium in Wankulukuku. The draw has denied Vipers SC a chance to go to the top of the Star Times Uganda Premier League. Both teams failed to score in the first half despite different attempts by both sides.

However, the hosts Express FC got a goal in the 56 minutes from a well-taken free-kick by midfielder Godfrey Lwesibawa despite a slight deflection from Vipers’ left-back Disan Galiwango. Express’s lead didn’t last long as it was cancelled by Vipers youngster, Karim Watambala just two minutes after with a long-range free-kick that gave little chance to Express custodian, Mathias Muwanga making it one-all draw.

Despite different attacks from both sides, nothing changed in the entire game. Both teams failed to register promising shots on target. Vipers received a boost with the introduction of Allan Kayiwa and David Bagoole who ignited the speed of the Kitende based team. However, this did not change the final score.

This result denied Vipers SC an early lead on the table. Vipers went to the game with 10 points and are lying third on the table following the 7-0 drubbing of MYDA on Saturday.  Victory over the Red Eagles would have taken them to 13 points, one better than current leaders UPDF who have 12 points. The draw means the vipers move to the second position with 11 points.

Express will remain in the 8th position. Express will face URA in their next fixture. URA that is under Sam Ssimbwa has never lost a game in the 2021 season campaign. Vipers will host current table leaders UPDF on February 13, 2020 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
