Embattled UIRI ED, Prof. Charles Kwesiga refuses to appear for interrogation

As an inquiry into corruption and gross mismanagement at Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) deepened, the ED – Professor Kwesiga was summoned by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit ( SHACU) to answer.

The beleaguered Professor refused to appear on the due date the 11th of January 2024, without apology.

Our sources have confirmed to us that bragadocio Prof. Kwesiga has been boasting that the Deputy Director CID at SHACU Tweheyo James is his villagemate and friend. He has been heard saying he is untouchable, that even his supervisor, the Minister of Science Dr. Musenero can’t do anything about it.

The 75 year old Professor – now past his retirement, has for long superintended over the affairs of URI like it’s a family business. He unequivocally ignored any summons from SHACU saying he is in touch with the President.

But what intrigues is the wanton impunity with which the egoistic Professor threatens staff. He is vehement that once the dust settles, he will deal with those he suspects to have leaked inside information to the public and SHACU.

It boggles the mind how and why the embattled Professor – caught red handed with stolen UIRI plumbing materials and iron sheets at his farm at Kyoruhega in Ntungamo district, is still at large, conducting business at UIRI as if nothing happened. Could it be true that Mr Tweheyo James has dug in for him, to frustrate investigations?

Let’s watch this space for what happens next.
