The Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company (UECCC) is set to launch an ambitious Clean Energy Technology Subsidy Program on December 5, 2024, in Kiboga District. This groundbreaking initiative aims to address affordability challenges that have long hindered many Ugandans from accessing clean and sustainable energy solutions.
The program’s announcement was made on December 2, 2024, by UECCC’s Managing Director, Mr. Roy Nyamutare Baguma, during a press briefing held at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala. The event highlighted the critical role the subsidy program will play in promoting socio-economic transformation and environmental sustainability.
Tackling the Affordability Barrier
Mr. Baguma emphasized that affordability has been a significant barrier preventing households and businesses, especially in rural and remote areas, from transitioning to clean energy technologies.
“We are committed to imploring every Ugandan to embrace the program and access clean, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy,” he said.
The program will provide significant price discounts for a range of clean energy technologies, including solar systems, clean cooking solutions, and energy equipment for productive uses. The discounts, ranging from 30% to 60%, aim to make these technologies accessible to a broader audience.
Access Made Simple
To participate in the program, Ugandans will only need a National Identification Card and the financial ability to cover the discounted price of the products. The products will be available through 67 pre-approved Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), all certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).
This straightforward access mechanism ensures that rural communities and low-income households can benefit from the program without complex procedures or additional costs.

The Clean Energy Subsidy Program is poised to deliver transformative benefits:
- Affordable Clean Cooking Solutions
Households will receive price discounts of 30%-50% on clean cooking technologies powered by solar, briquettes, ethanol, biogas, and liquefied petroleum gas. - Empowering Rural Productivity
The program will offer discounts of up to 60% on energy equipment for productive uses, such as water pumping, irrigation, refrigeration, cooling, water heating, and grain milling. - Boosting Socio-Economic Transformation

Regional Sensitization and Awareness
To ensure maximum participation, UECCC plans to conduct regional sensitization campaigns and market awareness activities. These initiatives will educate Ugandans on the program’s benefits and how to access subsidized clean energy technologies.
