NRM Manifesto Week 2024: Showcasing Progress and Commitment to Uganda’s Development

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) launched its Manifesto Week on Friday last week, a critical annual event designed to update Ugandans on the government’s progress in implementing the promises made in the 2021–2026 manifesto. The two-week-long event, taking place at the Office of the President Auditorium in Kampala, provides a platform for various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to present their performance, highlight achievements, and outline plans for continued development.

Objective of the Manifesto Week

The NRM Manifesto Week underscores the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency. By offering Ugandans a chance to hear firsthand from officials, the event fosters public trust and engagement in national development processes. It also serves as an avenue for MDAs to share challenges faced during implementation and propose strategies to overcome them.

The theme of this year’s Manifesto Week, “Consolidating Gains for Sustainable Development,” emphasizes the NRM government’s focus on building on past successes to ensure long-term growth and improved service delivery.

Structure of the Event

Each day, key ministries and agencies take the stage to present detailed reports on their achievements and ongoing projects. These presentations are supported by data, testimonies, and interactive discussions with the public and media. Key areas of focus include health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and ICT, which are all pivotal to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

For example:

The Ministry of Health is expected to present progress on increasing access to healthcare through the construction of hospitals and recruitment of medical personnel.

The Ministry of Works and Transport will report on major infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and ongoing railway developments.

The Ministry of Education and Sports will highlight progress in Universal Primary and Secondary Education programs as well as initiatives to improve skills training.

Achievements So Far

Since 2021, the NRM government has made significant strides in fulfilling its manifesto promises. Highlights include:

  1. Infrastructure Development: Completion of several road projects connecting rural areas to urban markets.
  2. Improved Healthcare: Enhanced maternal and child health services, increased access to essential medicines, and expanded health infrastructure.
  3. Job Creation: Promotion of industrialization and investment in youth skills development programs.
  4. Agricultural Transformation: Support to farmers through subsidies, mechanization, and market access programs.

Public Participation

The NRM Manifesto Week is not just about presentations; it is a participatory forum. Members of the public can engage with government representatives through question-and-answer sessions and social media platforms. This approach ensures that citizens’ voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

Future Plans

The NRM government remains committed to achieving its goals for the remainder of the term. Ministries will also outline plans to address existing challenges such as unemployment, climate change, and service delivery gaps.

Conclusion

As the Manifesto Week unfolds, Ugandans are encouraged to follow the discussions and hold their leaders accountable. This annual event is a testament to the NRM government’s dedication to delivering on its promises and building a stronger, more prosperous Uganda for all.

The event continues until next week, ensuring ample time for all ministries to share their work, successes, and future plans. Stay tuned for updates and detailed reports from each sector.
