Monthly , Nebbi used to spend Ugx 2 million on rentals per month for the office of the presidency.
This cost however is going to become history with effect from this week, after The Ministry of Presidency Headed by Milly Babirie Babalanda, Commissioned the construction of their offices situated in Nebbi Municipality in west Nile Sub_region.
Constructed at tune of Ugx 700 million, The modern magnificent and spacious building is the second initiative in West Nile subregion after the one of Adjumani District. The construction was undertaken by Zawadi Construction Company within four months stipulated time without much hiccups.
Its designed to house all the presidency offices, especially the resident district commissioner and the Deputy ’s office, The district Internal security office among others.
During the offices commissioning at Thatha Division on April 3, 2024, The Resident District commissioner Nebbi Robert Abak, Commended the government and Nebbi district council for allocating the land for the president’s offices.
” We commend the district because when I went to the office of the presidency. I was tasked to acquire land for the project. I’m so happy to say that the district indeed allocated for us land where the building is standing on and they stood by our side when some encroachers attempted to sue us after he accused us of encroachment” Abak stressed.
The structure sits on slightly an acre of land but lacks fences and pavements.
The LCV chairperson of Nebbi Emmanuel Orombi has appealed to the Ministry of Presidency headed by Milly Babalanda to consider the fencing of the magnificent structure.
” Hon minister you have seen how open this building is and you know this is the head of the security department, we kindly request you to consider fencing this place ” Orombi appealed
The Member of Parliament for Nebbi Municipality Hashim Sulaiman has equally alluded to other leaders pleas to fence the offices.
The government kick-started a plan to construct Presidency offices across the country in 2011. Under the initiative, so far 18 offices have been constructed in different Districts and apparently, 48 Districts have presented their land titles to the Ministry of Presidency office for the office’s establishment.
Major Martha Asimwe, The head of RDC’s secretariat and anti-corruption unit who represented the permanent secretary in the office of the presidency says a plan is in place to fix all the missing requirements at the office.
” The people of Nebbi, allow me to inform you that work at the offices is still ongoing, we are not yet done, we are going on with landscaping, fencing, and paving, amongst others, so chairperson what you talking about is just part of the design”. Said Asimwe in her remarks during the office’s commissioning.
Meanwhile, Milly Babalanda, The Minister of Presidency commended Nebbi District leadership for being cooperative. She added that the structure doesn’t belong to the people of Nebbi and therefore should take its good custody.
