Kalungi Masmoos counts 10 years in the que for Busiro East Seat

Kalungi Masmoos, a lawyer born in Busiro East is a member of the Justice Forum commonly known as JEEMA who wants to contest in Busiro East Constituency. Kalungi says he has been waiting to contest for Busiro East for now 10 years. Finally the family and the party have paved the way for him to contest on the Justice Forum Ticket. #WhisperEyeNews

He started actively to engage in politics in 2011. In that year, he was fresh graduate from the law school at Makerere university.  Hajj Kibirige Muhamad Mayanja, the chairman of the Justice Forum and also his father was going to contest in Busiro East. As a fresh graduate Kalungi  was among the team that prepared the nomination papers for the candidature of Mr Mayanja Kibirige in Busiro East.

Campaign materials such as posters, t-shirts, cups in party colours, and documents were all readied for Busiro East,  only to understand at the last minutes that there were secret negotiations between his camp and Hon Seggona Medard so as one candidate to give way for the other for the opposition to have one candidate in Busiro East and by the end of the negotiations it was Hajj Kibirige Mayanja to give way and contest in Kampala Central.

Mr Kalungi Masmoos

As a team which had mobilised for his candidature in Busiro East we were greatly demoralised and we were very bitter with this decision but the late Hajji Hussein Kyanjo being a good negotiator and mediator managed to convince us with his oratory power that the decision was okay at the time so as not to risk loosing the two candidates if they all contested in Busiro East.

Mr Mayanja Kibirige went ahead to contest in Kampala Central. However, he wasn’t  successful because it was a bit late to mobilise in Kampala Central from just the nomination day.  However Kalungi Masmoos learnt a lot through that experience and he told Mr. Mayanja that it was only going to be a matter of time for him to take on Busiro East Constituency.

In 2016 Kalungi engaged in a serious discussion with his family members and political friends to contest for Busiro East Constitutency. Family members and their close associates weighed him to hold on.

Hajji Kibirige Muhamad Mayanja for presidential candidiate

In 2021, after 5 years, he again revived his ambition to contest in Busiro east but the party advised him to contest in local council elections. He contested in the Naluvule parish of Wakiso District. He narrowly missed and came second to the NUP candidate.

This year, Kalungi says  “My family and my party have agreed with me that after a period of 10 or even 15 years it was enough time given to our comrade Hon Ssegona Medard and it now time for new blood and fresh ideas for Busiro East”.

He believes that he has all the qualifications, competencies and experience from the service he has rendered since his graduation from Makerere University to represent Busiro East in the august house.

The late Hon. Hussein Kyanjo

Mr Kalungi Masmooos said: “I thank my party the Justice Forum for nurturing me and my generation especially the senior members like the party president Hon. Basalirwa Asuman, and his Deputy Mr Alex Ojok, the party chairman Mr. KIBIRIGE Muhammad Mayanja and his Vice chairman, Reverand Santos Okema, the late Hon. Hussein Kyanjo,  the Secretary General Hajj Katerega Muhamad, Mr. Appolo Kasule, Mr Kasajja Fred and others”.

He continued, “I strongly believe that our time has come to take it on from the elders. After all, we are all just making our contribution to the struggle. By the end of this term Hon. Medard SSegona will have made his contribution for  3 terms and I believe I can take it on from there to also make my contribution to represent the people of Busiro east where am born and where I have activiley participated in the community e,g being among the brains behind Kasule high school in Wakiso, Kavumba a community school and also serving as a Sub county Secretary Wakiso Mumyuka among others”.
