The once momentous brass band of St Aloysius College Nyapea in Zombo District was officially relaunched on January 27, thanks to the association of the old boys of the school.
Locals used to label the brass band “earth-shattering”, given the crafty way students used to operate it in the 1960’s.
A bit of history has it that in the 1960s, The brass band members were invited for the celebration to commission the historical Pakwach Bridge that connects Northern Uganda and the West Nile Sub-region.
Constantino Omwon, The LC3 chairperson of Nyapea Sub-County and a former member of the brass band in the 1960s recounted that ” the revival of this brass band reminds me of how we were invited to the state house by the then President Apollo Milton Obote”.
He said, “We caught the eye of the president at Pakwach during the bridge commissioning and he later invited us to the state house in Entebbe where we stayed for nearly two weeks”.
Omwon called upon the current students to embrace the brand brass that used to be the face of the college.
The Chairperson of Old Boys Association of St Aloysius College Nyapea Dr. Amos Nyathirombo recently told this Publication that the association is working together with other stakeholders to revive the college that was once an academic and sports giant in the region.
Around Ugx 13 million was invested by the Old Boys Association of the school to revive the brass band according to the secretary general of the Old Boys Association of St Aloysius College Nyapea Robert Orombi.
He added that the brass band will serve the greater Nebbi Districts, westnile and Northern Uganda.
The College which was established in 1938, over the years has seen a decline in student enrollment but last year, The number had shot up to over 400, thanks to robust mobilization from the old boys, school administrators, stakeholders and leaders across the political divide.
The School Headteacher Brother Paul Nantinda, commended ” the old boys association for their generous support towards the acquisition of the brass band”.
He called upon parents to give support by taking more students to the once-historical school.
The Brass Band According to the RDC of Zombo Rt Lt Col Pius Alitema will be frequently higher during events across the District. This means it will serve as an income source for the school.
The students of the school underwent two weeks of robust training to operate the types of equipment.
The students caught the public eye on Saturday 27, when they played the brass band live, combing different streets of Paidha Town Council Zombo District, sending locals into feelings of excitement.
