Sad ! Nebbi church of Uganda Catechist and colleague drowns on River Ora

After a spirited search , Community have discovered bodies Of A Catechist and his colleague  after they  drowned on River Ora in Ragem Sub-County Pakwach District.

It is reported that the two were swept away by the fast-flowing water of river Ora in Ragem Sub-County on Friday 10, at around mid-day when they went fishing.

One of the deceased who is a caretaker Catechist of Dagogori Church of Uganda in Kucwiny Sub-county has been only identified as Oyirwoth,  whilst his colleague’s clear identity remains unknown,  though he is a Congolese national.

The LC3 chairperson of Kucwiny Subcounty Alex Oyirwoth confirmed the discovery of the two bodies both of whom are from his Sub-County, before making appeals to authorities regarding the protection of irrigation scheme on  River Ora.

” We lost two people on River Ora , one person who is a caretaker Catechist of Dagogori Church of Uganda in Dagogori Village has been only identified as Oyirwoth whilst his Congolese counterpart identity remains unknown” He told the whispereye news before calling  upon the  government “to come out with guidelines restricting access to Ora river especially that section of Irrigation scheme where people go fishing , it is  claiming lives frequently”  

This comes just a week after the body of a 56-year-old man was discovered in Cidu Stream in Erussi Sub-County Nebbi District. Recently, a teenager    drowned in a fish pond at  Patongo in Jupangira Sub County. relatedly, A teenager also drowned on the Acwera stream in Alala Sub-county Nebbi district three weeks ago.

In April this year, the Ministry of Works and Transport published a report indicating that nearly 3000 people die on Uganda’s water bodies annually and many of the cases are not reported to authorities.
